What is Background Remover?

Background Remover is an simple but powerful tool that uses AI to extract people, pets, jewellery, apparel, shoes, furniture, cars and other subjects from photos, and removes the background from these photos. You can also add a simple white, black or coloured background to your photos before downloading the results.

How does the Background Remover work?

Background Remover uses AI to automatically detect the subjects in images, and remove the background from the image. Background Remover is trained on a variety or subjects, patterns, textures, colours to effectively extract your subject. Within Background Remover you can also use a more advanced mode to refine the selection of the subject, again assisted by AI or by using a fine brush selection that is completely under your control. You can use the extracted subject in your image creation workflows. Within Background Remover, we give you the option of downloading the subject with a background colour if you want to.

What file formats are supported by Background Remover?

Background Remover supports all major image formats including JPEG, PNG, and TIFF formats. It can handle images generated from any source including phones, cameras or downloaded from the internet. Downloads happen in an appropriate format for the edit that you have made, can be converted to JPG, JPEG, PNG, HEIC, WEBP or other formats as required. Transparent backgrounds, may limit the formats further.

Can I remove backgrounds from multiple photos at once using the Background Remover?

Customers on an appropriate paid plan, can bulk edit multiple images in a batch, with up to 50 pictures in one batch.

Will using Background Remover affect the quality of my original photos?

Customers on an appropriate paid plan can download the output pictures at full quality and resolution. All other users can download pictures at limited resolution, with maximum dimension being 600 pixels, with a Magic Studio imprint on the pictures.

Is there an undo feature in the Background Remover tool?

Yes, when selecting your subjects with the AI assisted process in Background Remover you can undo the previous step to revert any changes made during that step. Please do note that there is no redo for these steps, and the undo is irreversible. You can also compare the edited version with the original starting image at any time.

Background Remover is powerful enough to be used in for professional photography, e-commerce and fashion catalogues, real estate and auto-listings, social media posts. It is simple enough that you can edit your vacation photos as well! Every time you get beautiful, clean photos clear of defects and distractions in just a few seconds.

The time required to process an image depends on the many things, including the size, complexity in the image, the rush at our servers (we have dedicated servers for customers on our paid plans). We are constantly working on making our systems faster, but even now, most images are typically processed in a few seconds.

Is Background Remover free to use?

Background Remover is a free to use with no usage limits, but downloads are at a limited resolution, with maximum dimension being 600 pixels, with a Magic Studio imprint on the pictures.

No. You can use Background Remover for free for as long as you need, without logging in or creating an account. Customers on any of our paid plans will need to login with their accounts, to access the features of their respective plans.

What is the refund policy for paid plans?

We currently do not offer refunds, except where and when required by law. You can use almost all of our tools, for free, for as long as you like, with no usage limits (with reasonable resolution limits on the output) to understand how they might be useful for you, before you decide to purchase. While we would like to offer refunds more liberally, our paid plans come with unlimited usage (or generous usage limits) and hence it is not possible to offer refunds without a significant chance for abuse.
